Motorcycle Safety Tips and Techniques

Safety is Everyone's responsibility!  No matter your experience level, you can always learn (or re-learn) important rules related to operating a motorcycle as an individual or in a group; how to inspect your motorcycle before you hit the road for a trip; and important First Aid tips that may save your life or that of someone riding with you.

Think about this.  Some members have been riding their entire lives.  Some rode when they were younger and took a break for a number of years before picking it back up.  Others were dirt bike riders who may never have ridden a street legal motorcycle.  Some are transitioning to baggers from a metric.  Some may have just gotten their licenses for the first time.   As you can see, it is possible that we have all levels of experience within the CVMA® KY 1-2.  For sure you will meet these people during your travels.

Confidence is perhaps the most important thing a rider can possess.  Over-confidence kills.  Too fast around curves, driving after having a few alcoholic beverages, riding to someone else’s skills (aka - not riding your own ride), etc.  Please stay grounded in the basics.

One more thing.  Ride like you are INVISIBLE.  Most cager’s do not see motorcycles because they are not looking for them or they are distracted.

Make sure you inspect your motorcycle before you ride.  The results of not inspecting your ride is more than just a possible break-down on the side of the road.  If you have a malfunction while riding, it may cause you to wreck!  If this happens while in a group ride, it could be catastrophic for a large number of people who are part of your second family.  Do not underestimate the importance of performing a TCLOCS inspection BEFORE you ride, EVERY time.
